The Bible Reads Like a Children's Book! - Or does it?

Sometimes I get happy questions, sometimes I get angry questions and sometimes I get challenging questions like this one I have for you today.  I call it "challenging", because it challenges me to explain something that I didn't think needed any explanation.

Question: Pastor Keith, I've been listening to your "Biblically Speaking" shows and all throughout them you keep saying over and over "If you take the Bible for what it says, it reads like a children's book!".  I don't know why you say this, because I need someone to interpret so much of it for me because it's very hard to understand.  Why do you say this when it isn't true?

Answer: Ah-ha!  (I love saying Ah-ha!)  Let me to try to explain.

Allow me to use an example direct from Jesus Himself!

Matthew 16:5-12 - Now when His disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. Then Jesus said to them, "Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees." And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "It is because we have taken no bread." But Jesus, being aware of it, said to them, "O you of little faith, why do you reason among yourselves because you have brought no bread? Do you not yet understand, or remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you took up? Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand and how many large baskets you took up? How is it you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread? --- but to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees." Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Far too often we don't think.  And more than that, we don't pay attention.  And more than that, we don't think (wait, I said that already, LOL).  Jesus could have whipped up an entire grocery store full of bread, yet somehow they forgot the MIRACLES that they witnessed WITH THEIR OWN EYES!  And even worse than that, how on earth did they misunderstand "BEWARE THE LEAVEN OF THE PHARISEES" to mean that they had forgotten to bring bread???  Were the Pharisees bakers???

The reason that I insist that the Bible reads like a children's book, is because if you simply read the vast overwhelming majority of it, and take it for what it says, YOU WILL UNDERSTAND IT SIMPLY.  It WILL make perfect sense.  You will not require an "interpreter".  With that said, if you're not familiar with different types of speech, such as sarcasm, inference, analogy, simile and a host of other types of speech that I reference in THIS blog post, not only will you have a difficult time parsing what you read in the Bible, you'll have a hard time parsing any written word of real value.

With that said, there IS something I've discovered over the past few years that I should spend a moment here explaining to you all.

I happen to know the background of the person who sent me this question.  English is NOT their 1st language.  I've had people telling me for a while now, that the Bible is not easy to understand like I say it is, and every time I'm told this, it's usually by someone whose PRIMARY language isn't English.

So that brings up another issue.  Being in the United States, where the predominant language is still English, we native English speakers have one HUGE advantage!  The advantage isn't that we speak and read English, the advantage is that the BEST translations of the Bible are all in English!  And when I say "best", please believe me that I know there are 100's of translation errors, even in the BEST we have available.  If you're a native English speaker there are more than 150 English translations for you to peruse (of course most of them aren't worth reading).  If you are a native Spanish speaker (as just one example), you have maybe 2 primary translations to work with.  I only have a passing familiarity with non-English translations and I can tell you that from my own minimal experience, the non-English translations are not particularly amazing.  So when a non-English speaker is listening to me talk about the AMAZING SIMPLICITY that you can read the Bible with, they think I'm a little nuts.  Think about it, they listen to me, then they play back what I said in their minds in their own language, and then finally they go and try to look up the passages in their own Bible and they get totally confused when what I said doesn't even remotely resemble what they're reading!  So I empathize!

So as penance, from now on when I'm addressing an audience that i'm not 100% confident are completely native English speakers (such as doing a show), I will NOT be saying that anymore.  And if I do, I'll add the following to cover all of my bases: "If you read the Bible and take it for what it says - It reads like a children's book!  At least if you're reading it in your own native language."  Sure, it doesn't have a great ring to it, but since I'm aware of the potential for misunderstandings as basic as this one, I'll do whatever I can (reasonably) to avoid it.  :)

So what is the point of me expressing that the Bible reads like a children's book anyway?  Like in the example above where Jesus is chastising his disciples, the point is that the most obvious reading is more than likely the correct understanding.  Now with that said, if you're doing a particular study of something, such as Eschatology, you'll find that advanced subjects like this require a sincere effort in order to walk away with even a basic understanding of all the associated facts.  Which isn't to say that things like eschatology can't be explained simply, but that if you're going to be reading the passages related to it, and you want to make sure you're not confused or misled, you're going to need to have a better understanding of "biblical language".  Which of course is way beyond the scope or purpose of my blog and my general ministry work.

As always, please feel free to share with me your comments and suggestions!

Rabbi Loren Jacobs - You Do Not Stand Alone

Since I'm sure that the majority of my readers/followers won't know who Rabbi Loren Jacobs is (or why I'm writing about him), allow me to briefly explain.

Without going into excessive detail, recently, Rabbi Jacobs (who happens to be a Messianic Jew), was called upon to give a prayer in reference to the killings at the Tree of Life Jewish Synagogue in Squirrel Hill, Pennsylvania.  Please listen to his prayers HERE.

He gave a very thoughtful, kind and well worded prayer.  He prayed for peace, unity and love and in return he was slandered.  He said nothing wrong, indeed did nothing wrong, yet because he mentioned Jesus, he was summarily attacked, dragged through the mud and even though this man had done them no wrong, the "powers that be" sought to discredit this man using everything at their disposal.  Most of which was twisted facts, laid out in just such a way as to convince those who don't know any better, that Rabbi Jacobs was some kind of a crazy person.  Woah, sure sounds  a lot like what happened to Jesus!

It's my understanding that most of you reading this already know what a Messianic Jew is, but for those who don't, allow me to give you a brief explanation.

If someone tells you that they're a Christian, you can generally assume that they actually care about the teachings of Jesus.  Some of the many names Jesus is known by include, Mashiach, Immanuel, Prince of Peace & Messiah.

If someone tells you that they're a Jew, you can generally assume that they follow the teachings of Torah, the Tanakh and that of the Talmud.

But if someone tells you that they're a Messianic Jew, that would automatically assume that they're a Jew that believes that Jesus is the Messiah.

Chances are you've never met a Messianic Jew before (there are very few in the world), but believe me when I tell you, they're just as much of a Christian as you or anyone else that you know.  The only difference, is a Messianic Jew is more than likely someone who was BORN a Jew and through whatever experience they had, came to understand that Jesus is in fact THE savior that Israel was promised a few thousand years ago.  As a matter of fact, the coolest part about a Messianic Jew, is they have a LOT in common with the Jews in Israel who followed Jesus during His ministry.  Just think, Matthew was among the very first of Messianic Jews!  Needless to say, Rabbi Jacobs & his congregation are in excellent company.

Now I don't want to go too deep, because I explain rather deeply in my yet to be released book But Is It Biblical?, but this situation reminded me of the "blindness" that has been put upon "Israel".

Romans 11:25-27 - For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: " The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins."

The real reason for me writing all of this today, is because I've decided to sit down for perhaps the 9th time, to completely re-read the entirety of the New Testament.  9 times may not seem that much, but combine it with the millions of pages of study and 1,000's of hours of reading individual passages (or whole chapters), it's a lot.  :)  As I was saying, I began reading the NT again last night and in Matthew I came upon a passage I've read 100's of times before.  A passage that I'm sure the majority of you have either read for yourself or have heard someone mention.

Matthew 1:23 - "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us."

Why did this passage get my attention this time?  Well, one of the things that the Jews (not Messianic), do to try to discredit Jesus, is to say that they don't believe it's possible for there to be a virgin birth.  And to be honest, if you leave God out of the equation, then sure, even I would agree with them.  But see, God tells us that with Him, all things are possible.  Even things you can't imagine.  For your reference, please see Matthew 19:26, Mark 9:23, Mark 10:27, Mark 14:36, Luke 1:37, Luke 18:27, Jeremiah 32:27, Job 42:2, Jeremiah 32:17 & Zechariah 8:6.  Believe me, when God has something EXCRUCIATINGLY important to say, He repeats Himself - A LOT.

In any event, I came across Matthew 1:23 and for those of you who may not realize, the very first sentence of that verse appears in Quotes!  It appears in quotes because the previous verse (22) FRAMES what we are about to read in 23.

Matthew 1:22 - So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:

Matthew is telling us that one of the Old Testament Prophets (in this case Isiah), prophesied about this more than 1,000 years before Jesus was born!  Isiah was a major Prophet, someone that any learned Jew would recognize as someone EXCEEDINGLY important in Judaism and not to be doubted.  So that lead me to look at the actual words that Isiah used:

Isiah 7:14 - Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

Well isn't that curious?  Aren't those the exact words that Matthew used?  Why on earth would the Jews reject the concept of a virgin birth?  Right, the blindness!  Just like a mother who refuses to see that their beloved child has a problem, just like the failing restaurant owner refuses to see that his failed practices are putting him out of business, so too are the Jews refusing to see what is so plain and clear for them to understand.  And the worst part, is there's nothing you or I can do to "make" Israel see.  And by "Israel", I mean the majority of Jews in the world, not just those in Israel.

And it's not like that small verse was all Isiah had to write about Jesus.  Isiah wrote more about this child of the virgin birth as well.

Isiah 9:6-7 - For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

Isiah really hit this one out of the park.  Just think, Isiah said that this child would become known as "MIGHTY GOD" and "EVERLASTING FATHER".  A Christian didn't write that folks.  One of the most revered and respected Prophets this world has ever known wrote it.  Again, how can Israel say there is no such thing as a virgin birth?  How can Israel say that Jesus is not God?  The blindness.

AND IT'S OKAY.  God needs for it to be this way for right now.  Nowhere in Scripture are Christians called to go out and "convert" Jews.  At no time did God indicate to us that it was the job of the Christian to try to guilt or call out Jews in order to bring them over to our side.  God says He's got it all under control.  In other words, we can't HELP GOD to remove that blindness, only He can.

Romans Chapter 11 explains PERFECTLY what is going on with Israel and the blindness.  I looked to see if there was something I could copy/paste here to break it down into bite-sized morsels, but believe me, what's written in that chapter is far more than a snack, it's a meal!  And it's a meal that I believe every single Christian reading this eat until they are full!

Rabbi Loren Jacobs, if you happen to find and read this, I wish you and your followers God's Blessings, and please believe me when I tell you that you are in my prayers and I sincerely hope that this attack doesn't discourage you, but instead allow it to fan the flames of the Holy Spirit within!

Malachi 2:10 - Have we not all one Father? Has not one God created us? Why do we deal treacherously with one another By profaning the covenant of the fathers?

As always, if you have any comments or questions, please keep them family friendly.
And if you enjoy reading what I write, please share it with someone.  :)

Husband of One Wife - Some Facts

Have you ever been reading through the Bible and come across something that made you giggle?

What a weird thing to read, "husband of one wife".  Well of course you'd be the husband of ONE wife!  What a preposterous thing.  Right?

Let's talk about that for a moment....

First the verses in question:

1 Timothy 3:2 - A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach;

1 Timothy 3:12 - Let deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

Titus 1:6 - ...if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or insubordination.

If you've come across those verses in the Bible AND you have a good Pastor in your life, you were probably told something along the lines of:

"Well, Paul was talking to Titus and Timothy about things that were actually going on back in those times.  You see, back then, in certain parts of the world, it was acceptable, even normal to have multiple wives, all at the same time.  But don't worry about that stuff, it's not really important anymore."

Hold your horses...

That teaching started off great, but ended in disaster!

Today in 2018, not only are there people in places all over the world that STILL practice polygamy, but there are whole religions that both teach AND practice it as well!  If you're old enough, you probably think I'm going to point you to the Mormons!  But guess what?  While it's TRUE that there are SOME offshoots of the Mormon religion that DO practice this, the larger LDS does not.  While we're on the subject, the only reason that the LDS do not practice this, is because the United States government (and indeed all 50 states) have made it a crime to do so.

So what religion am I talking about?

Oh boy!
This one is going to get me into some hot water for sure!

Remember the "religion of peace"?  You know, those nice fellas that like to strap bombs to their chests and murder thousands of people in a great ball of fire?  You know, the ones that like to get behind the wheel of a box-truck and murder dozens of people and families while they're out innocently enjoying a beautiful evening together?  Yeah, that was some sarcasm.

Islam not only practices this in OTHER parts of the world, they are practicing it right now, RIGHT UNDER YOUR NOSE here in the United States!  For those of you who don't know, the practice of polygamy has been going on not just since Mohammed taught about it in the 600's, but way before that as well.  Pagan religions have been encouraging it for at LEAST a couple of thousand years.

You might be asking yourself, "How can they get married  to more than one woman in the United States?  Didn't you just say it was a crime?".  And you'd be right to ask that question!  But first, let me show you what Islam teaches.

From the Qur'an:

Sura 4 (An-Nisa), Ayah 3 - If ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, Marry women of your choice, Two or three or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or (a captive) that your right hands possess, that will be more suitable, to prevent you from doing injustice.

A quick note:  If asked, most Muslims will tell you that since the Bible was incomplete (that's what they'll say), it was left to Muhammad to finish it and fill in all the blanks.  Seems to me that the verses above are a HUGE contradiction to what's already in the Bible.  Seems to me God made it pretty clear you should only have ONE WIFE at a time.  But I'm not here today to show you how and why the Qur'an isn't the Word of God.

So that verse in Sura 4 shows you where Muslims get "permission" to marry 2, 3 or even 4 wives all at the same time.  But now we get to the nitty-gritty.  There is apparently a HOLE in every single one of the laws in the United States regarding the illegal practice of polygamy.  It's so HUGE that anyone can walk right through it while juggling!

Federal law (by way of the Internal Revenue Service) demands that a marriage is between TWO consenting adults.  Therefore any time you fill out your tax returns, there are only TWO places for names.  Your name and your ONE spouses name.  Getting married by a justice of the peace?  Don't even think about it if you already have 1 wife.

But what if you don't care about the IRS?  What if you don't care about tax deductions?  What if you want to get whatever you want and you want to get around the laws?  As I understand it (and I personally know it's true), depending on what nationality the Muslim is, it's as simple as asking your wife for permission to take another woman.  I know for a fact that's the way it is in both Pakistan and Iran.  There are other Muslim countries that don't even ask as much.  If a man wants another wife, they can do so, as long as they are able to properly care for and support all of their wives.

This is apparently the dirty secret that we're not supposed to know about.  Fact is, there's no law against CHEATING on your wife (because that's what's REALLY happening).  It's wrong, it's hurtful, deceitful and you shouldn't do it, but it's not a crime.  Fact is, you could have 100 "wives" if you wanted to, just remember not to CLAIM them in whatever state you live in or on your tax return.

But let me reel this all in for you.  I'm not suggesting that anyone lose their minds and start taking multiple women as wives.  That's insane!  God made it crystal clear regarding what He expects and what He demands of us.  I just wanted to set you straight that there are some things that your average "American" isn't even AWARE OF, much less your average "Christian".  If your Pastor doesn't know something, then he can't teach you.  If you don't know, you'll also teach something that isn't correct or true.

This blog is all about correcting false teachings and making sure that you're equipped for as much as possible.  While I'm not recommending you go out and become an expert in the Qu'ran, nor am I suggesting you go out and start reading the books that other religions use either.  What I am suggesting, is that you're not afraid to pick up those books, in order to make sure that you better understand the what's, where's, why's and how's about all sorts of things that you may come across in life.

While I would wish that every Pastor knew everything that there is to know about everything, that just isn't possible.  Even I learn new things every single day!  Never be afraid to learn, no matter what your friends or family think.  It's that thirst for knowledge and the never ending desire to be as close to God as possible that should drive you.

To all of those who would deny what I have written here or claim that I'm wrong or ignorant, a simple Google search or even a simple visit to Wikipedia will give you enough information to prove to you that I'm not making this up.  Even better - Ask a Muslim and see if they'll tell you the truth.  While I would hope they'd be honest, don't be too surprised if they lie.  Apparently Islam teaches that it's fine to lie to non-Muslims.  LOL.  Who's the author of confusion again?  Right!  It's Satan!  :)

Exodus 20:16 - Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

Keep it family friendly!  :)

Jesus Only Movement - aka Jesuism / Jesusism / Jesuanism

Please forgive me.

Sometimes it takes me a while to figure out WHAT exactly is going on.
And by "what", I also mean WHY is it happening.  Allow me to explain....

For the past few years I've been hearing (OFTEN) "Jesus never said.....".  And what He "never said" is a long laundry list of things including:
  • "Jesus never said that gay marriage was wrong"
  • "Jesus never said that doing drugs was bad"
  • "Jesus never said anything about giving to the church" (this one is rare)
  • "Jesus never said anything about women pastors teaching men"
Every time I hear those types of things (believe me, there are many more), I always wonder to myself, "Why is that a problem?"  I would think to myself, "There's a lot of things that aren't mentioned in the bible, should we therefore avoid or ignore all of them?"  The answer is of course not.  Just because something isn't in the bible doesn't make it good or bad.  Doesn't make it right or wrong either.

But see, this is where I've been trapped for the past few years.  I didn't understand WHY these things were important to make sure we're aware of...  UNTIL NOW!  😄

There is a segment out there that has been around longer than any of us have been alive, that have tried to prove that if Jesus didn't say it, then it's not important.  Fact is, the progressive liberal socialists are using this very old movement to pursue some very nefarious ends.  So let's think about that reasonably for a moment.  If Jesus is God and He didn't say something, then sure, I guess it's not important, right?

It WOULD be right except for one teensy, weensy thing....

2 Timothy 3:16-17 - All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

See that?  It says ALL SCRIPTURE is given BY GOD - SO THAT THE MAN OF GOD MAY BE COMPLETE!  It doesn't say "only those verses that Jesus spoke with His own human mouth".

OOPS...  Wait a minute.  I just goofed!  Paul wrote that!  I can't quote Paul and have the "Jesus Only" group listen to me.  I'd have to quote Jesus Himself!  And by the way, if the IRONY of this next quote doesn't hit you immediately, please let me know!

Mark 12:24 - Jesus answered and said to them, "Are you not therefore mistaken, because you do not know the Scriptures nor the power of God?"

Exactly what Scriptures was Jesus talking about?  Was He talking about the book of Mark?  Impossible, it hadn't been written yet.  Was He talking about the rest of the New Testament?  Nope, none of the New Testament had been written yet.  Jesus was talking about SCRIPTURES, meaning every single thing contained in the bible.  What we have today, regardless of what the "scholars" would argue, are the 66 books of the bible that we reply upon, depend upon and indeed TRUST WITH OUR LIVES.

Anyone who would try to convince you that Jesus had to have said/done something in order for it to be true or important, is fooling you big time!  Who spoke the 10 commandments?  Was it Jesus?  Who created Jesus?  Was it Jesus?  See where I'm going here?  All of Scripture is what we call "God breathed".  Just as God BREATHED the universe into existence, we also know that God also breathed every single word contained in Scripture.  If you don't believe this extremely simple, basic & fundamental teaching, then you can rest assured, you're not a Christian.

Why would they try to deceive you with this false teaching?  SIMPLE!  They want you to doubt, question and lose trust in the thing that they hate most.  GOD!  They want to discredit and muddy THE BIBLE.  They want a way for their sick and disgusting ways of life to be acceptable in your eyes.  They want to try to make it impossible for you to believe anything you read, anything you hear and anything that you learn.  WHY?  That's been Satan's job since the garden!  Here's something else Jesus said:

John 10:10 - The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

If you read that entire passage, you will know with 100% certainty that the "thief" Jesus is talking about is IN FACT Lucifer.  He will do whatever is necessary in order to deceive you, manipulate you and fool you into thinking something other than what is true.  The sad part, since most "Christians" are very weak in their Bible knowledge, fooling them is extremely easy.  And believe me when I say that it doesn't matter how smart you are, what your IQ is, or what you do for a living.  If you don't know WHAT GOD HAS TO SAY ON A MATTER, then what you "think in your own mind" is probably not the same.

Isaiah 55:8 - "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," says the LORD."

This is why I warn you each and every day that I am alive, to be VERY CAREFUL of where you get your information from.  Chances are you're getting a full dose of ear-tickling nonsense daily!

You know what to do! (just make sure it's kept family friendly)

Men & Women - Equality Conversation Ends Now

The liberals across the land (all lands, liberalism seems to know no borders), have hijacked Jesus and the Bible and they keep trying to make God say things that He never said, that He never meant & that He never intended for you to believe.  But false teachers continue to pop up everywhere, trying to make sure that they say things that make you happy, so you'll keep giving them your hard earned cash.  It reminds me of an organ grinder and his monkey.  The more tricks the monkey does, the happier you feel, the more you're entertained, the more you'll tip him.

So let's go over some things that we can easily find in the bible first:

Throughout scripture God is referred to as a HE - a FATHER, never a she.
The bible explains that the woman was deceived NOT the man.
The bible explains that women should NOT teach men regarding matters of the Spirit.
Throughout Paul's writings, he calls upon "Fathers" regarding teaching roles.

Now that we've mentioned a few short items regarding this, let's talk about the problem.

Liberals have decided that men and women are 100% interchangeable.
Interchangeable in what way?
They'll tell you in EVERY WAY!
And people are loving these teachings!

They teach that both men and women can be FATHERS.
They teach that the word father can and should be substituted for mother!
As a matter of fact, they teach that women make BETTER fathers than men.

As I say all throughout my yet to be released book But is it Biblical?, "you're free to believe whatever you want, But is it Biblical?".

Feminism has become the cancer that I always anticipated that it would become.

Now let's talk about what God has to say about it.

In the beginning God created man first (Adam), then He created woman (Eve) as a helper.  Is a helper the same as a manager?  Is a helper the same as an owner?  What is a helper?  A helper is one who helps.  What is a helper NOT?  A helper is not the leader.  A helper is not the manager.  A helper is not anything more than that - a helper.

So was that to be the woman's only role for the rest of time?

Aha!  That depends upon the context of the question!

Can a woman own a business?
Can a woman be a manager?
Can a woman be a boss?
Can a woman be a leader?

However, God isn't particularly concerned (in the Bible) about the daily comings and goings of men and women.  What He IS concerned about is whether or not a woman should be leading a man, managing a man and indeed PASTORING a man in MATTERS OF THE SPIRIT!

As a matter of fact, God is SO CONCERNED about this, that He gets downright HARSH and says in no uncertain terms:

1 Corinthians 14:34-35 - Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church.

Keep Silent
Not Permitted
Be Submissive

The only way liberals can make their false teachings work, is because they know that 99% of the people in churches DO NOT READ THEIR BIBLES.  People read snippets. devotionals or just listen to other people say things.  They never bother to do ANY homework to see if what they're being told is true.

But wait a minute Pastor Keith, you even say in your own book that God sees both men and women as equals! BUT IN WHAT CONTEXT DO I SAY IT?

God sees no male, no female, no white, no black, no asian, no mexican, no kiwi!
Salvation is available to anyone who accepts the atoning sacrifice of the blood of Jesus.

That is the only TRUE equality anyone should be trying to understand from scripture.

So quit tipping the monkey.
Church isn't supposed to be purely for entertainment value.

2018 - Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (FOSTA)

NOTICE:  While this is a family friendly website, there are occasions that it's necessary to delve into some adult-related themes from time to time.  This is one of those times.  If you're a child or someone with an inability to deal with important topics, either get permission from a parent or leave this Blog entry now.  This is your only warning.

Over the past few years, my Blog has started to include some articles that crossover into what some people call "Politics".  And I can appreciate that, as most of the people searching for and coming here are looking to answer very specific questions about God, the Bible & Christianity as a whole.

In all of my years teaching about God, discipleship & the Bible in general, I've come to discover something that's rather insidious in nature.  For the most part I've bitten my tongue (or in this case, tied my hands behind my back), because I've been trying to be as non-political as possible.  The problem, is that no matter how well I plan, no matter how thoughtful I am of the words I choose to use, there will always be a group of people out there who will go out of their way to find something to be offended at.  For the most part I don't care.  If you look carefully at some of the things that Jesus has said, you'll find that He has said way more insulting and way more offensive things than I have (and rightly so!).

But today I come to you to talk about a bill (2 actually) that were recently passed by BOTH the U.S. House and the U.S. Senate.  I'm going to comment on it for 2 reasons.  The first, is you've probably never heard about it.  The second, is that I am confident that the thing I'm most concerned about - the thing I'm going to tell you about today - will actually come to pass.

The bills that were passed are referred to as the "Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act" (SESTA) or "Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act" (FOSTA).  They're acts that were passed in order to hold website operators DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE to anyone who has been hurt as a result of being a victim of sex trafficking.  Briefly, the reason that these acts came before Congress, is because a lawsuit from someone trying to sue a website operator for allowing people to use the site in a way that caused them harm was put before the United States Supreme Court.  As I understand it, the case was rejected and handed over to Congress to deal with.  They did.

So what's the problem with this Act?  You would think I'd be thrilled!  And don't get me wrong, I am thrilled.  Sex trafficking is awful!  I can barely imagine what it must be like for a woman, or even worse than that, a young girl, to be sold into sex-slavery or be forcibly used by someone in order for them to make money.  So the act itself I am for, but the consequences of that act.... I believe it's just a matter of time before those consequences are made manifest.

Allow me to explain:

There were 2 widely known websites who weren't INVOLVED in the sex trafficking in a direct manner, meaning, the owners of the site weren't actively taking small girls, handcuffing them to steel pipes and forcing them to have sex with adult men.  The sites were being abused and used for purposes other than what they were designed for.

The 2 sites were and

Within DAYS of passing this act, backpage was shut down by the Federal Government for a whole host of non-compliance issues.  As a matter of fact, here is the image currently being displayed there at this time of this writing:

Craigslist on the other hand, being much larger and the recipient of far more web traffic, took a much more aggressive and hands on approach to the act.  Craigslist completely shut down the areas of their site that were being abused THE MOST.  I say "the most", because even now there are people using other parts of that site to keep themselves "in business".

Here is the message that Craigslist put online, in place of their "personals" section:

You would think that Congress and the public at large would be thrilled about the very direct and very finite results of this.  And you'd be right.

As I said in one of my opening statements, I believe there is in fact something insidious in nature that will come to pass as a result to this act COMBINED WITH the actions of shutting down Backpage and from Craigslist shutting down their personals section.

I am convinced in every way possible that this is going to result in:
  1. As the sick people who use these sites won't be able to easily access the people who provide such things, I believe that Rape is going to increase.  How much?  Who can say?  I believe it will be measurable, but I fear that law enforcement won't be able to put 2 and 2 together and realize it's because of the shut-downs.
  2. Continuing with the rape theme, I believe that young family members & neighbors with small children will also be at a much higher risk of abuse than ever.  Years ago you could trust women to watch your young girls, but now women are molesting young girls too!
  3. Again, continuing with the rape theme, I believe that the elderly or otherwise disabled people will increasingly become victims of rape, by people that were supposedly "trustworthy".  You have to understand, these sick lusts are uncontrollable for these people.
And I believe that it's also ALREADY begun.  No, the news hasn't picked up on it yet, no, it's not being reported anywhere, but I can't imagine that these sick and twisted people have allowed their lusts to go unabated for more than a month!

If you have small children, KEEP THEM CLOSE!
If you go out to social functions in bad neighborhoods, GO IN LARGE NUMBERS!
If you have an elderly, injured, disabled or comatose relative - KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN!

Believe me when I tell you that I realize this post seems odd or even confusing to some of you.  I'm just sharing what I feel has been put on my heart to share.  So please try to understand that I'm not trying to create a panic, I'm merely issuing what I believe to be a serious warning.  Do as you likewise feel lead to do.

Can anyone among you say it's a bad thing to keep a closer eye on your loved ones?

In closing, I'm not saying that Craigslist and Backpage should go back to what they were doing, NOT AT ALL.  What I AM SAYING, is that these sick perverts have had their "status quo" disrupted and are going to need to keep doing whatever it takes to satisfy their lusts.  The saddest part, is that the Progressives believe the only problem with these acts is a loss of freedom of speech!  Who are they kidding?  Eliminating both the 1st and 2nd amendments to the U.S. Constitution has become a full time job for them over the past 9 years or so.

The Bible teaches us that "with God, all things are possible", but these people aren't "with" God, they're getting their instructions from somewhere else.  Keep preaching the truth, keep reading your Bible, keep the faith & continue to evangelize until you have no more breath to give.  That's the best any of us can do.  And don't forget to look up when you pray!  Please come soon Lord!

I welcome any comments or additions!

Hey Pastor Keith - Where are you?

I got a message today from a young man who has been reading and listening to both this Blog and the Radio Show and he wanted to know why he hasn't seen anything from me yet this year.

Fact is, if God isn't leading me to write something here, I really, Really, REALLY try to keep my fingers in my pockets!  It's hard I tell you!

I've had a couple of really interesting ideas rattling around inside of my head lately, maybe I'll get the go-ahead on one of them soon!

In other news:
  • I'm still searching for an Apologist
  • I'm still wanting to start up the NEXT season of the show
  • I'm still desiring to release the book
  • I'm still desiring to find a church that needs me
  • I'm still keeping it real, as it's all I know!
Hopefully that should fill in all of the blanks until my next post!

Until then, please keep reading your Bible, please keep the questions coming and PLEASE keep active in your prayer life.  Failing to keep God at the forefront of your mind, only pushes Him into the back of it.
